12-Year-Old Survivor Of Minneapolis Church Shooting Returns Home After Months In Hospital

A 12-year-old girl who was critically wounded during a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis has been released from the hospital and returned home after nearly two months of intensive treatment, according to doctors and local officials.
The girl, Sophia Forchas, was shot in the head during the August 27 attack that left two classmates dead and 17 others injured.
She underwent emergency brain surgery at Hennepin County Medical Center, where doctors removed part of her skull to relieve pressure and save her life.
Her recovery has been described by physicians as “nothing short of a miracle.”Sophia was escorted home Thursday in a small police convoy led by Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, as neighbors and classmates lined the streets to welcome her back.
Her parents, Amy and Tom Forchas, said they were “overwhelmed with gratitude” for the doctors, nurses, and community members who supported them through the ordeal.
We have witnessed love and faith carry us through the darkest days,” they said in a statement.
Doctors say Sophia still faces a long recovery and will continue therapy to regain full motor and speech functions. But they added that her progress — walking, talking, and responding — has exceeded early expectations.
