Ukraine and the US have made significant progress in their latest round of talks, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirming his commitment to ending the three-year war with Russia.
Last month, tensions escalated after an awkward Oval Office meeting saw Donald Trump suspend military aid to Ukraine. However, on Tuesday (March 11), US and Ukrainian officials met for eight hours of discussions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, resulting in a joint statement announcing key developments.
US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed that Trump agreed to lift the pause on billions of dollars in military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. “The Ukrainian delegation made it clear that they share President Trump’s vision for peace,” Waltz stated.
Ukraine signaled willingness for a 30-day ceasefire, contingent on Kremlin approval. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the US would present the proposal to Russia, Saying, “Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking. Now, it’s up to them to say yes or no.”
Discussions also covered long-term security measures to prevent future Russian aggression. While specific details remain undisclosed, Ukrainian presidential aide Andriy Yermak stressed that ensuring a just and lasting peace is the priority. according to politico
