The 38-year-old Democrat, known for her strong messaging and viral speeches, gained national attention for her opposition to conservative policies and her defense of LGBTQ+ rights.

The Michigan Senate race is expected to be highly competitive in 2026. Other potential Democratic contenders include Representatives Haley Stevens and Kristen McDonald Rivet, as well as Abdul El-Sayed, Wayne County’s health director. On the Republican side,

former Congressman Mike Rogers and Tudor Dixon are considering bids. With Michigan proving pivotal in recent elections, both parties see the race as a major battleground.
