According to a report in The Harvard Crimson, former President Joe Biden praised Harvard University for its stand against the Trump administration. During a Wednesday special seminar at Harvard’s Kennedy School, Biden praised the university’s resistance to federal pressure, calling it a sign of true leadership.

Harvard stepped up in a way no one else has,” Joe Biden reportedly told a small group of students at the off-the-record event. “You should be really thankful.” Two students present at the event shared their remarks with The Crimson.

When asked by a student reporter whether Harvard should sue the federal government, Biden said he supported the university’s actions but did not call for a legal fight. “I think Harvard should just do what it’s doing — lifting everybody up,” he responded.

Former President Barack Obama has also praised the university in a post he shared on his X, saying that Harvard “is a model for other institutions of higher learning.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Massachusetts Governor Maura T. Healey have also publicly supported Harvard.

A spokeswoman for Harvard Kennedy School declined to comment on Biden’s appearance, and Joe Biden’s team has not issued no public statement about his remarks, the report said.
