President Donald Trump has again criticized Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, this time calling him “fake” after the Democrat traveled to El Salvador to meet with a man wrongly deported by the U.S. authorities.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump dismissed Van Hollen’s visit, saying, “Look, he’s a fake. I know them all. They’re all fake, and they have no interest in that prisoner. That prisoner’s record is unbelievably bad.”

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, was accused by U.S. officials of having ties to the MS-13 gang, a group the Trump administration has designated a terrorist organization. Abrego Garcia’s legal team has disputed the gang’s claims, and at least one federal judge has questioned the claim’s credibility.

Van Hollen posted a photo of his meeting with Abrego Garcia, prompting conservatives to criticize it and Trump to call it “GRANDSTANDER!!” in a post on Truth Social.

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador begging for attention from the Fake News Media, or anyone. GRANDSTANDERS!!!
