Spain to Send Warship to Protect Gaza Aid Flotilla After Drone Attack

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced that Spain will send a naval vessel to escort an international flotilla delivering aid to Gaza.

After the convoy reported a drones attacks near Greece. Italy has already deployed a warship to assist them.

Speaking in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, Sánchez said the ship would leave from Cartagena to provide protection and carry out rescue operations if needed.

He called for respect for the international law and the safety of civilian vessels in the Mediterranean.

The Global Sumud flotilla, made up of around 50 boats from 45 countries, aims to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza by sea.

Though no casualties occurred. Participants include lawyers, activists, and climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

Italy responded by sending its frigate Fasan to the area, while Spain’s deployment is expected to provide additional security.

Israel, which enforces a naval blockade on Gaza, has long opposed similar flotillas, though it has not yet issued a statement on the reported attacks.
