New York Activists Prepare Rapid-Response Network Ahead of Potential ICE Operations

MLN — 19 JAN 2026: Activist groups in New York City are organizing a large network of volunteers in anticipation of possible federal immigration enforcement operations, according to PM information shared during a recent organizing meeting. Participants said the effort is intended to rapidly mobilize supporters if Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity expands under the Trump administration.
The plans were discussed during a monthly meeting of the Immigrant Justice Working Group, a coalition that includes members of the Democratic Socialists of America. Organizers told attendees they expect a potential increase in federal enforcement activity and said preparation is necessary to respond quickly and coordinate community actions if operations begin.
Organizers said the network aims to involve more than 4,000 participants, including roughly 2,000 members of the organization and a similar number of non-affiliated volunteers.
Training sessions are being conducted to prepare participants for monitoring federal activity and communicating information within affected neighborhoods. Volunteers with foreign-language skills were encouraged to assist with outreach, according to statements made during the meeting.
The organizing effort also included fundraising activities, with donations collected to support training materials and logistical needs. Several participants said they were motivated by recent events in other U.S. cities, including fatal encounters involving federal immigration agents that have drawn nationwide attention and protests.
Speakers at the meeting described immigration enforcement agencies as aggressive and said recent federal actions have increased fear among immigrant communities. Others framed immigration enforcement as part of broader political and economic systems, calling for continued resistance through organized community action.
Similar anti-ICE efforts have emerged in multiple cities across the country, with activists using tactics such as neighborhood alerts, documentation of enforcement activity and coordinated media engagement. Federal officials have said immigration operations are focused on individuals accused or convicted of crimes, while critics argue enforcement actions have broader impacts on local communities.
No federal enforcement action has been announced in New York City, and officials have not commented on whether additional operations are planned. As discussions continue, city leaders have urged calm while emphasizing the importance of lawful protest and public safety
