Billionaire Elon Musk Clarifies No Intention to Purchase TikTok, the widely popular short-video app owned by Chinese company ByteDance. This comes amid ongoing U.S. efforts to ban the app over national security concerns.
Elon Musk’s Statements on TikTok Acquisition
In late January, Musk stated, “I have not put in a bid for TikTok,” during a virtual conference hosted by The WELT Group, part of Axel Springer SE. His comments were released online on Saturday, February 8. Musk emphasized that he has no personal interest in the app, saying, “I don’t have any plans for what I would do if I had TikTok.”
The Tesla CEO also revealed that he rarely acquires companies, citing his purchase of Twitter (now X) as an exception. “I usually build companies from scratch,” Musk added. This further confirms that Elon Musk TikTok acquisition talks are unfounded.
U.S. Government’s Stand on TikTok and Elon Musk’s Role
The U.S. government has raised concerns that ByteDance could be compelled by the Chinese government to share data of American users, posing a national security risk. TikTok has consistently denied these allegations, stating it has never shared user data with China
In response to these concerns, former President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January to delay a ban on TikTok, originally set for January 19. ByteDance was given a deadline to sell its U.S. assets or face a ban. Despite the Elon Musk TikTok speculation, Musk has made it clear he is not involved in any potential acquisition.
TikTok’s Efforts to Avoid Restrictions Amid Elon Musk TikTok Rumors
Despite the ban, TikTok has allowed U.S. Android users to download the app through package kits on its website, bypassing restrictions on app stores. Apple and Google have yet to restore TikTok on their platforms since the U.S. law took effect. The Elon Musk TikTok discussions have not impacted these efforts, as Musk remains uninvolved.

Trump has mentioned the ongoing discussions with potential buyers for TikTok, with decision expected very soon.
