Jeffries Accuses Trump, GOP of Ignoring Cost-of-Living Crisis

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) Jeffries Accuses Trump and Republican lawmakers on Sunday, accusing them of failing to address America’s rising cost of living despite making it a central campaign pledge.

“Donald Trump and Republicans consistently promised they would lower the high cost of living, yet they’ve done the exact opposite. They’ve shown no interest in tackling rising costs in the United States, which are already too high,” Jeffries said during an interview on ABC News’s “This Week.”

Jeffries Accuses Trump: “Everything Costs Too Much, But Trump and GOP Don’t Care”

Jeffries emphasized that essential expenses from housing and groceries to child care and utilities remain alarmingly high, making everyday life increasingly unaffordable for Americans.

“Housing costs are too high. Grocery costs are too high. Child care costs are too high. Utility costs are too high. The cost of living is too high in the United States. This country is too expensive. But Trump and the GOP have broken their promise they have no interest in improving the quality of life for hardworking taxpayers.”

He further criticized Republicans’ economic priorities, vowing that Democrats will resist any efforts to cut taxes for billionaires and large corporations at the expense of middle-class families.

Polling Shows Trump’s Popularity Rising Despite Economic Concerns

When ABC News’s Jonathan Karl questioned Jeffries about Trump’s rising favorability ratings, Jeffries dismissed it as early campaign momentum, urging voters to focus on Trump’s failure to deliver on his economic promises.

“Let me be clear this is just the beginning. Donald Trump promised to lower costs for everyday Americans. We were even told that grocery prices would drop on Day One, Jan. 20.”

Jeffries Accuses Trump: “Trump’s Promises on Costs Are Already Broken”

Jeffries Accuses Trump pointed to the soaring cost of eggs and rising inflation as proof that Trump has failed to fulfill his economic commitments.

“Costs aren’t lower. In fact, they’re increasing. The price of eggs is skyrocketing, and inflation is back on the rise. That was Trump’s core promise, and it has already been broken.”

As economic concerns grow, Jeffries signaled that Democrats will continue to challenge Trump and the GOP on issues impacting the financial security of American families.
