MSNBC hosts Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow faced backlash on Tuesday night after making controversial remarks about a 13-year-old boy battling cancer. Their comments came after President Donald Trump praised the child’s resilience and dreams of becoming a police officer during his address to Congress.

Trump highlighted DJ Daniels, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 at the age of six and given just five months to live. Defying the odds, DJ has pursued his dream of law enforcement, being sworn in multiple times as an honorary police officer.

During his speech, Trump announced that DJ would receive an even greater honor becoming an honorary Secret Service agent. “He has always dreamed of becoming a police officer,” Trump said. “But in 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”

Trump then turned to the young boy and continued, “And tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an Secret Service agent of the United States .”

The emotional moment was met with applause, but on MSNBC, hosts Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace took a different approach, drawing criticism for their remarks about the young cancer patient.
