Tennessee High School Teacher Found Dead in Classroom, from Self-Inflicted Gunshot: Police


A well-respected Tennessee high school teacher was discovered dead in a classroom early Thursday morning. Samuel Colin Day, the special education director at Munford High School, is suspected to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.
The tragedy took place around 6 a.m., before students arrived on campus. Following the discovery of Day’s body, the Tennessee high school remained closed for the rest of the day.
The Munford Police Department released a statement confirming that there was no foul play or danger to students or staff. The department extended its condolences, emphasizing the impact of the tragedy.
“This incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. this morning, well before students arrived for class,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, students, and faculty affected by this heartbreaking event. We ask that the community respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time
There are no indications of foul play,” the statement continued. “Further information may be obtained from the Tipton County Board of Education. All students in all schools are safe. Munford is situated approximately 30 miles north of Memphis
Those who knew Day shared their grief on social media, remembering him as a “wonderful” and well-respected individual.
“He was so sweet,” a former student wrote on Facebook. “I talked to him every morning, and we were twins on twin day with another teacher. RIP.
