Senate Confirms Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence
On Wednesday, the senate confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as the next Director of National Intelligence wit a final vote of 52-48.
Gabbard’s confirmation process began on February 4, when the Senate Intelligence Committee advanced her nomination in a 9-8 vote. On Monday, her nomination cleared a key procedural hurdle, with the Senate voting 52-46 to invoke cloture, paving the way for the final confirmation vote.
During her confirmation hearing, Gabbard emphasized her commitment to the role, stating, “If confirmed as Director of National Intelligence, I will continue to live by the oath I have sworn at least eight times in my life, both in uniform and as a member of Congress. I will support and defend our God-given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”
In the days leading up to the vote, Republican Senators Todd Young and Susan Collins, who had previously voted against confirming Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, announced their support for Gabbard, contributing to her successful confirmation.
