Chrystia Freeland, former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Party leadership contender, shared a story on X and during the recent Liberal leadership debate.
A few weeks ago in Saskatoon, I met a four-year-old girl named Ari. She asked me, ‘Can you stop Trump from invading Canada?’” Chrystia Freeland recounted.
She went on to say, “Ari is a smart little girl. She’s asking the right question. I’m running to lead the Liberal Party and become Canada’s next Prime Minister because Donald Trump represents the most serious threat we have faced since World War II.”
President Donald Trump has previously made it clear that he has no plans to invade Canada, instead focusing on economic measures in his approach to the country.
Last month, when asked whether he was considering military action against Panama and Greenland as part of broader expansionist efforts, Trump firmly stated that he had no intention of using force to annex Canada.
When asked about potential military action against Canada, President Donald Trump dismissed the idea, stating, “No. Economic force.” He suggested that removing the border between the two countries could offer financial benefits and claimed that the U.S. spends “hundreds of billions a year” to protect Canada.
CbC Report, Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association and a member of Trudeau’s Council on Canada-U.S. Relations, supported Trudeau’s concerns, stating that Trump’s rhetoric reflects a genuine interest in Canada’s natural wealth.
Despite Trump’s remarks, Chrystia Freeland’s concerns echo those of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

who has warned that Trump’s comments about annexing Canada should be taken seriously. Speaking to business leaders, Trudeau claimed that Trump views absorbing Canada as “a real thing” and linked his interest to the country’s valuable mineral resources.
Trump’s annexation-related comments trace back to November, when Trudeau and senior cabinet minister Dominic LeBlanc met with him at Mar-a-Lago following threats of tariffs on Canadian goods. At the time, LeBlanc suggested Trump was joking…
