In a post on X on Tuesday, DOGE stated, “The U.S. government currently has approximately 4.6 million active credit cards/accounts, processing around 90 million transactions with a total spending of about $40 billion in FY24
DOGE also shared a breakdown of credit card usage across federal agencies, revealing that the Department of Defense had the highest number of transactions, with about 27.2 million purchases made across 2.4 million accounts. Other agencies with significant transaction volumes included the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Homeland Security, and the General Services Administration.
DOGE Reports that it is collaborating with these agencies to “streamline the program and cut administrative costs” and plans to provide an update on its progress in a week.

President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for DOGE and Elon Musk’s efforts to curb government waste and shrink the federal bureaucracy. Despite facing criticism for allegedly overstepping its authority, DOGE Reports has continued pushing its initiatives. The department has also become the target of multiple lawsuits from opponents trying to halt various cost-cutting measures.
On Tuesday, Trump issued a memo instructing government agencies to be “radically transparent” about their spending. According to Fox News, the memo claims that the federal government “allocates too much money to programs, contracts, and grants that fail to serve the interests of the American people.”
“For too long, taxpayers have funded ideological projects abroad and domestic organizations engaged in activities that undermine national interests,” the memo stated. “Americans have watched their tax dollars go toward the personal agendas of unelected bureaucrats rather than advancing the nation’s priorities.”
“The American people deserve to know how the federal government has wasted their hard-earned money,” it added.
