DETROIT—Eminem’s music publisher Eight Mile Style filed a $109 million copyright lawsuit against Meta Platforms in federal court Friday.

The lawsuit accuses Meta of unauthorized use of 243 Eminem songs across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Eight Mile Style seeks $150,000 per song for each platform, totaling $109.35 million in statutory damages.

The publisher also requests actual damages and a permanent injunction.

Court documents filed May 30 claim Meta’s tools allow users to steal music for video content without proper licensing or credit.

The lawsuit specifically names features like Instagram Reels Remix and Original Audio as enabling copyright violations.

Eight Mile Style alleges Meta engaged in knowing and rampant infringement while encouraging billions of users to violate copyrights willfully.

The publisher states Meta attempted to secure licenses through digital royalty company Audiam Inc. without proper authorization.

Meta removed some Eminem songs after complaints but continues hosting unauthorized cover and instrumental versions, according to the filing.

A Meta spokesperson said the company had been negotiating in good faith with Eight Mile Style before the lawsuit was filed.

Meta maintains licenses with thousands of partners globally and operates an extensive licensing program for music on its platforms.

Eight Mile Style requested a jury trial in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
