Authorities have identified Quornelius Radford as the gunman responsible for shooting five soldiers at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday, according to NBC News.

Three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter confirmed Radford’s identity. The alleged shooter has prior ties to Florida, officials said.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area of Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah.

Five soldiers were shot and treated on scene before being transported to area hospitals. Three victims were taken to Memorial Health in Savannah, the region’s only Level 1 trauma center.

Radford was apprehended at approximately 12:35 p.m., ending the active threat. No fatalities have been reported.

Brigadier General John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, confirmed the victims were co-workers of the suspect.

“The shooting occurred at the soldier’s place of work,” Lubas stated during a press briefing.

The general did not provide additional details about Radford’s military status or the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Fort Stewart implemented immediate lockdown procedures following the shooting. Wright Army Airfield and Evans Army Airfield were also secured.

Six area schools went into lockdown as a precautionary measure. Liberty County and Appling County school systems lifted their lockdowns after authorities confirmed the threat was contained.

All clear was given at 1:51 p.m., with gates reopening at Fort Stewart and associated airfields.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed sadness over the tragedy, keeping victims and their families in his thoughts and prayers.

Former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams thanked first responders for their quick response to the incident.

The shooting adds to more than 260 mass shootings recorded in the United States in 2025, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Fort Stewart houses the 3rd Infantry Division and serves as the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the shooting.
