Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her purse stolen while dining at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night, department officials confirmed.
The stolen bag contained nearly $3,000 in cash, along with Noem’s keys, driver’s license, passport, checks, a makeup bag, medications, and an official Homeland Security badge, according to CNN.
A department email said Noem had cash to buy Easter gifts for her children and grandchildren, as well as to cover holiday dinners and other family activities.
As HS Secretary, Noem receives protection from the U.S. Secret Service, although officials have not disclosed whether security personnel were present during the robbery.
