Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s Bag was stolen in DC restaurant with $3K in cash inside

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her purse stolen while dining at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night, department officials confirmed.

The stolen bag contained nearly $3,000 in cash, along with Noem’s keys, driver’s license, passport, checks, a makeup bag, medications, and an official Homeland Security badge, according to CNN.

A department email said Noem had cash to buy Easter gifts for her children and grandchildren, as well as to cover holiday dinners and other family activities.

As HS Secretary, Noem receives protection from the U.S. Secret Service, although officials have not disclosed whether security personnel were present during the robbery.

The Secret Service referred all questions about the incident to Homeland Security headquarters. and Noem’s office has not yet commented on whether the stolen IDs could pose a security risk.
