Iran threatens UAE cities after U.S. strike on Kharg Island

Iran’s military has threatened to strike cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after accusing the United States of launching attacks on Kharg Island, a major Iranian oil export hub, from locations inside the Gulf state.

In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it believes U.S. forces used “ports, docks and hideouts within” UAE cities to carry out the strike. The IRGC said it considers it a legitimate right to target those locations in response to the attack, though it did not specify which cities could be targeted.

The warning follows remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who wrote Truth Social American forces had “obliterated” military targets on Kharg Island but avoided damaging the island’s oil infrastructure. Trump said the operation was among the most powerful air campaigns in the region and warned Iran not to interfere with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered the strait closed, disrupting a route that normally carries about 20% of global oil shipments. The disruption has pushed oil prices higher and increased tensions across Gulf countries hosting U.S. military facilities.
