Kristi Noem Says Cartels and Gangs Placed Bounties on ICE Agents

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Sunday that cartels, gangs, and terrorist groups have put bounties on the heads of federal immigration agents, including offers of $10,000 to kill and $2,000 to kidnap them, as she revealed in an interview and later posted on her X account.
Kristi Noem did not name specific cartels or gangs, but said the groups have shared agents’ photos within their networks and coordinated efforts to target enforcement officers.
She described the threats as “extremely dangerous and unprecedented.” According to Noem, intelligence gathered by DHS indicates these bounties are actively disseminated among criminal organizations.
She tied the allegations to recent violent incidents, including a reported ambush of agents in Chicago where she said agents were boxed in by a caravan of vehicles.
Kristi Noem said the groups involved “want to take them down” because federal agents are disrupting criminal profits.
We have specific officers and agents that have bounties that have been put out on their heads,” Noem said. “It’s been $2,000 to kidnap them, $10,000 to kill them … this is an extremely dangerous situation.”
The new claims deepen tensions as enforcement operations continue in cities like Chicago. DHS says it is deploying protective measures, and federal and local officials are bracing for potential retaliation as investigations proceed.
