Luigi Mangione, 26, has been formally indicted by a federal grand jury in Manhattan on charges related to the killing of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Mangione faces four serious charges, including one that could make him eligible for the death penalty. If convicted

Fox News correspondent Eric Shawn reported live outside the courthouse:

Luigi Mangione is now indicted in the case and, if convicted of murder, he could face execution. The federal grand jury here in Manhattan handed down four counts, including murder, stalking, and firearms charges, against Mangione, the 26-year-old.

Attorney General Pam Bondi commented: This guy is charged with hunting down a CEO, a father of two, a married man—hunting him down and executing him. I feel like these young people have lost their way.”

Mangione has also been charged with 11 counts in New York state and faces additional charges in Pennsylvania. He was arrested at a McDonald’s five days after the shooting.

His lawyers are asking the judge to dismiss the death penalty option,

The Justice Department has moved from the dysfunctional to the barbaric. The decision to execute Luigi Mangione is political. They are defending the broken, immoral, and murderous healthcare industry that continues to terrorize the American people.”

As a sign of growing public support, Mangione’s defense fund has raised more than $925,000.
