Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has raised concerns over potential new U.S. tariffs, warning they could severely impact Italian producers and make high-quality Italian goods less accessible to American consumers. She emphasized the importance of the U.S. market, noting that Italian exports to the U.S. grew by 17% in 2024.

Meloni stated that tariffs would unfairly limit access to Italian products and could push Italy to take countermeasures if necessary.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella echoed her concerns, calling the tariffs a “profound mistake” and urging European nations to respond with unity and determination.

While Meloni stressed the importance of avoiding a trade war, she made it clear that Italy would act to protect its industries if needed.
