Newsom Says Trump Will Run for Third Term, Received Trump 2028 Hat

California Governor Gavin Newsom stated President Trump will attempt to run for a third term in 2028 and said he received a Trump 2028 hat in the mail.

The Twenty-second Amendment prohibits presidents from serving more than two terms.

The Trump Store began selling “Trump 2028” hats in April, according to multiple news outlets.

Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles introduced a resolution in January to amend the constitution, allowing presidents who served non-consecutive terms to seek a third term.

Trump told NBC News in March that “a lot of people want me to do it” and “there are methods” to serve a third term.

He suggested Vice President JD Vance could run and then resign. Trump said other methods also exist but did not specify.

Newsom has not announced a 2028 presidential run. He told reporters: “I’m not thinking about running, but it’s a path that I could see unfold.”

New York Democratic Representative Dan Goldman plans to introduce a resolution affirming the Twenty-second Amendment.
