The U.S. government shutdown will continue into next week after senators failed again to agree on a stopgap spending bill late Friday,

Republicans pushed a “clean” resolution to keep agencies open, while Democrats insisted on attaching health care provisions, including subsidy extensions.

The deadlock left federal workers to face for unpaid days and agencies warning of mounting disruptions. Senators leaving the Capitol admitted there was no immediate path forward, with both parties dug in.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on potential program cuts: “Any administration is going to make decisions based on their priorities…that’s the situation the Democrats have put this administration in…they’re going to make decision that are consistent with their priorities.”
