District of Columbia authorities have made over 400 arrests since the Trump administration began its crime crackdown in the nation’s capital, with 127 arrests occurring over the weekend.
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the figures, stating federal partners seized 21 illegal guns during weekend operations.
“We’ve made arrests on warrants for homicide, sexual predators, drug trafficking, illegals. If you want to be in DC and you’re a criminal, you’re not welcome,” Pirro said.
A White House official told the Daily Caller that in 11 days, authorities made over 380 arrests, seized 59 firearms, and arrested over 160 illegal immigrants.
Some of those arrested included known gang members. Others faced charges for assault, burglary, and drug smuggling.
Sunday night operations deployed 22 multi-agency teams throughout DC with 1,950 participants.
The DC Police Union reported significant crime reductions since Trump announced the federalization of DC’s police department compared to the previous week:
- Robbery down 46 percent
- Carjackings down 83 percent
- Violent crime down 22 percent
- Property crime down 6 percent
- Overall crime down 8 percent
Assault with a deadly weapon decreased 6 percent and car thefts fell 21 percent.
The union stated: “While federal assistance gives us a boost, we must repeal the misguided Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act in order to make these changes permanent.”
The crackdown represents a major federal intervention in the district’s crime enforcement efforts.
