WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Latino voters dropped to 39 percent in May from 43 percent in February, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The survey by Global Strategy Group found steeper declines among key groups. Latino independents’ approval fell from 43 percent to 29 percent. Women’s support dropped to 30 percent.
Somos Votantes, which commissioned the poll, surveyed 800 Hispanic registered voters nationwide from May 8-18. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
Trump’s economic approval rating among Latinos fell to 38 percent overall. The number drops to 26 percent among independents and 30 percent among women.
“These numbers tell a pretty clear story that Trump’s economic trust is not only steadily, but quickly, eroding,” the polling memo stated.
The findings show 15 percent of Latinos who voted for President Donald Trump in November now disapprove of his performance.
Young Latino men aged 18-34 shifted from supporting Trump by 11 points in the election to disapproving by 11 points currently.
The National Republican Congressional Committee launched Spanish-language ads Monday targeting eight House Democrats in majority-Hispanic districts.
Rep. Richard Hudson, NRCC chairman, made direct appeals to Hispanic voters during the campaign launch.
Somos Votantes researchers said Republican messaging has failed to resonate with Latino voters concerned about economic priorities.
The poll results align with other recent surveys showing Trump’s support eroding among minorities and young voters.
