Pritzker Says Trump to Deploy 400 Texas National Guard Troops to Illinois

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says President Donald Trump is ordering 400 Texas National Guard troops to be deployed to Illinois — a move the governor condemns as a breach of state sovereignty.

In a statement released Sunday, Pritzker said that no federal officials contacted him prior to the order and accused the administration of launching a “military invasion.”

He urged Texas Governor Greg Abbott to refuse coordination, saying “the brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props.”

Texas Gov. Abbott responded by saying he “fully authorized” the deployment to protect federal personnel.

A Pentagon memo, cited in media reports, reportedly sets the deployment duration at an initial 60 days, with a possibility of extension.

The move comes amid broader federal efforts to intensify immigration enforcement, especially around ICE facilities in Chicago.

There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation,”

Pritzker said. “This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.

The deployment raises serious constitutional questions about the balance of federal and state military authority.

Legal challenges and negotiations are expected as Illinois officials weigh their response.
