MLN -26 JAN 2026:A private jet carrying eight people crashed Sunday evening while taking off from Bangor International Airport in Maine, federal officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed at about 7:45 p.m. Eastern time “as it was taking off” from the airport. The conditions of the eight people on board were not immediately known late Sunday.

The FAA said it will investigate the crash along with the National Transportation Safety Board.

The incident occurred as a major winter storm battered much of the East Coast, triggering widespread flight delays and cancellations.

Airport spokesperson Aimee Thibodeau told The New York Times that Bangor International Airport was closed as emergency crews responded to the crash. No additional details were immediately released.
