In the early hours of Sunday, March 9, 2025, The Secret Service was involved in a shooting incident just one block away from the White House. The confrontation occurred after local police alerted the agency about a potentially suicidal individual armed with a firearm.

According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the incident took place near the intersection of 17th and G Streets NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Federal agents had located the man’s vehicle parked nearby and encountered him as he walked toward Pennsylvania Avenue, a historic street adjacent to the White House.

The situation escalated when the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, pulled out a firearm. Secret Service agents responded by firing shots, striking the individual. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but his current condition remains unknown. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the encounter.

The man, reportedly from Indiana, had traveled to Washington, D.C., on Saturday. Local authorities had flagged him as a potential threat due to concerns about his mental state, prompting them to notify the Secret Service. While his motives are still unclear, the incident has raised questions about security measures near the White House.

At the time of the shooting, President Donald Trump was staying at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The DC Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division is leading the investigation into the incident.
