Dozens of Somali supporters gathered at the Brian Coyle Center in Minneapolis for a campaign rally supporting mayoral candidate Omar Fateh.

Footage from the event showed supporters wearing t-shirts bearing Fateh’s name. Some attendees displayed political stickers showing support for Gaza.

Fateh, who identifies as a democratic socialist, spoke at the gathering. A supporter also addressed the crowd in Somali through a microphone.

The candidate serves as state senator for District 62 in Minnesota. He has posted campaign announcements in Somali on social media.

Fateh’s campaign proposals include making Minneapolis a “safe haven” for gender-affirming procedures and abortion access. He supports increasing the minimum wage and implementing rent stabilization policies.

The candidate has stated that protecting undocumented residents from federal authorities ranks among his top priorities.

Fateh is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, according to his government profile.
