Trump says he’s not ready to declare victory over Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump said he is not ready to declare victory in the ongoing conflict with Iran, even as he claimed recent U.S. military operations have significantly weakened the country.

Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States has inflicted major damage but stopped short of announcing a final outcome. “No, I’m not going to do that. There’s no reason to,” he said when asked whether he would declare victory.

“I just say they’re decimated. I think that we’ve done damage to them,” Trump added, suggesting that if the United States ended operations now it could take Iran years to recover. “If we left right now, it would take them 10 years and more to rebuild but I’m still not declaring it,” he said.

Trump did not provide details when asked whether the United States is considering sending ground troops into Iran. The remarks come days after the president said on social media that the United States had defeated Iran “both militarily, economically, and in every other way.”

The latest comments follow a large U.S. bombing campaign that Trump described as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East,” targeting military facilities on Kharg Island, a strategic energy hub.
