White House Tells Agencies to Plan Layoffs if Shutdown Hits

The White House has told federal agencies to get ready to lay off workers if the government shuts down on October 1st

A memo from the Office of Management and Budget says agencies must list programs that would run out of money and draw up “reduction in force” plans.

That means not just sending people home without pay, but possibly cutting jobs for good. According to The Hill.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the move “intimidation,” saying Trump is using federal workers as pawns in a political fight.

He urged the administration to work on a deal instead of threatening jobs.

Past shutdowns have usually meant temporary furloughs. This time, the White House is warning of permanent cuts if Congress cannot pass a funding bill. That has left many workers worried about what will happen next week..
