YouTube to Pay $24.5 Million to Settle Trump Lawsuit

Alphabet-owned YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump over his account suspension following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot

Under the agreement, $22 million will go to the Trust for the National Mall to support construction of a new White House State Ballroom, as directed by Trump According to AP

The remaining $2.5 million will be distributed to other plaintiffs in the case, including the American Conservative Union and author Naomi Wolf.

YouTube did not admit any wrongdoing and will not change its content policies or operations as part of the deal.

A YouTube settlement filing states: “This … shall not constitute an admission of liability or fault … and is entered … for the sole purpose of compromising disputed claims.”

The settlement closes the last of Trump’s major suits against Big Tech for account suspensions after Jan. 6, and the public and legal community will now watch how the funds are disbursed and whether other platforms follow suit.
